Built by Byzantine Emperor, Andronikos II Palaiologos in 1282 after the victory against the Angevins in the Siege of Berat, the monastery is famous as the place where, in 1451, was celebrated the marriage of Skanderbeg, the national hero of Albania, with Andronika Arianiti

On the same day you visit, Karavasta Lagoon is the largest lagoon in Albania and one of the largest in the Mediterranean Sea. Walk through the natural park and see its rich biodiversity in flora and fauna. You will take a boat trip through the canals of the lagoon to experience its beauty from inside, see the birds and the famous dalmatian Pelican. 

 Discover the ancient city of Apollonia on this full-day guided tour. Enjoy its special atmosphere, archaeology, and landscape. Then, visit the Ardenica convent, one of the most famous historical and religious monuments in Albania.Start your guided tour of Apollonia at 11 AM. The Archaeological Park of Apollonia holds about 2 million years of history. With the many monuments and ruins scattered on the hills of the Archaeological Park, you will come in close contact with the splendor of the Hellenistic and Roman periods.  Identify the ruins of the 8 angular antique cities with straight streets with the help of your guide. Transfer to Apollonia this morning and set off on a guided tour, where an on-site archeologist explains the history behind the temple of Artemis, the Odeon, the Triumphal Arch and more.  Then, you head for lunch in a local restaurant in the countryside around Apollonia.  In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Durrës, for a guided tour of the city’s famed ruins. You will wander around its City Walls, Venetian Tower, Byzantine Forum, roman Thermal Baths, the Amphitheater, and more. Take a coffee break with a great view of the city before travelling back to Durres.
